About

I have had my ham license since before the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in California. I remember sitting in my ham shack that day in Monterey California, talking to someone in Minnesota on my radio. When all of a sudden the ground started shaking and all the items on the shelves around me started falling. That lead to the activation of the local A.R.E.S. and R.A.C.E.S. groups.

I learned about the major role ham radio plays in the community, moving vital messages over radio waves for people trying to contact their friends and loved ones to let them know they were okay. Since all other forms of communications were down, ham radio communications was the only option.

Ever since then, I’ve understood what ham radio is all about. We may call it a hobby, but when it helps our fellow human beings communicate. It is a WONDERFUL feeling.
